The first stop is Fitero, in whose centre can be found the first Cistercian
monastery of the Iberian Peninsula. It was built in the year 1140,
under control of the Abbot Raimundo (the founder of Calatrava's Order) and
nowadays its main dependences can still be visited. The abbey church, the
cloister and the beautiful capitulary room remain intact. The church is gothic
style, the cloister is a bit older and the style of the sacristy is baroque.
The altarpiece is considered to be one of the best of the 14th century in
Navarra.
